Ramsar site Šúr is a wilderness near Bratislava. Our voluntary activity will lead us to an unique area of swamp elder forest just at the outskirts of our capital city. National Nature Reserve Šúr is the largest area of this kind in Central Europe and one of the largest in whole Europe. Monumental old elders with their roots, fallen trees and the humidity of such community resembles tropical forest. This site was also designated a Ramsar site in 1990. Here is also the Panónsky háj Grove. It is an old elm-oak forest with majestic old oaks. Besides these two main habitats there is also local fishpond with the occurrence of waterbirds.
During our stay we've visited hides for hunters. Next time we are going to mow the raid grass around them. We will also pick up trash in the scrubland areas.
We hope to meet woodpeckers, Grey Herons, Black Storks and maybe also an Imperial Eagle. For sure we will meet plenty of mosquitoes. In this location is huge populations of fallow deer, European roe deer, mouflon, European hare, wild boar and thus quite easy to observe and even photograph.
Organised by Joy'n'Work
Place: Petrol station Svätý Jur
